Jalapeno Eating Contest!!

About a week ago me, my friend Lex and my friend Spencer thought it would be a great idea to do a Jalapeno eating contest. After consulting with the RHA director, we got approval and were given permission to make our dream a reality! Last Thursday we went over to Safeway and we purchased their entire stock of spicy Jalapeno peppers. We ended up buying almost 4 pounds of Jalapenos... We even had to double bag the peppers just so the bag didn't rip. We also purchased a few gallons of milk for the contest would be on fire! No pun intended...

With the globe warming, the snow on the mountain melting, the flowers blooming, people in Steamboat just thought it couldn't possibly get any hotter. Well my friends, that destiny was shattered this past Sunday. Thanks to the Resident Hall Association, CMC put on its first ever Jalapeno Eating Contest! Boy did a heat wave blow through the MPR that night!!!

When Sunday evening rolled around, we went down to the MPR to set up for the contest. Students were anxious for the event to start. 15 minutes before 9pm, students poured into the MPR to spectate the competition. I was surprised when nobody said they wanted to participate but luckily we had 4 brave contestants who volunteered their taste buds for the chance to win. First place prize was a $30 gift card to Safeway and 2nd place was a $15 to Safeway. There was enough incentive for the competitors to go all out.

Feel the burn!

When the contest started, everyone was cheering and it got very loud in the MPR. Ive never seen people get so excited over peppers before! Some kids kept a straight face and some were in major pain. When the contest was over we counted up the pits.

This was the first RHA event I hosted and it turned out to be a great success. I was happy to see so many people show up as well. Check out our winners!!
